Find answers across company emails and documents
A system that connects business information and lets people ask questions about it. Answers include supporting sources; when no relevant information is found, the system says so.
The problem
The answer to an ordinary question — what did we agree, who owns this, what is outstanding — usually exists. It is just spread across a mailbox, a drive, a chat thread and a calendar, and the only thing that joins them is a person who remembers. That person becomes the bottleneck, and when they are away the business cannot answer its own questions.
What I built
Everything the team already has — mail, documents, meetings, messages — is read once and turned into a map of who and what it mentions and how those things relate. Every entry on that map remembers which message or document it came from, so an answer can show its sources instead of asking to be trusted.
When the map has nothing relevant, the answer says so rather than improvising — a confident wrong answer about your own business is worse than no answer, because you act on it.
One example
For example, a question might be what did we agree about the renewal, and when does it run out? The answer is in 3 places at once: the thread where it was agreed, the attachment that set the terms, and a date in a calendar invite. Nobody filed it anywhere; it simply happened across a week.
What comes back is one short answer with those 3 sources listed under it. So the first thing you check is not whether the system is clever, but whether you agree with the messages and documents it used — which is the same thing you would have done if a colleague had answered.
The control side matters as much. Usage can be attributed to individual accounts rather than pooled, and a request that cannot be attributed to a person is refused rather than quietly charged to a shared one. Where costs have to separate, they separate in the plumbing rather than in a spreadsheet afterwards.
The product
I built the first version of this at Native AI, where it became deepnative.ai. What it does in full is explained there.
